Chen shared her story on the latest episode of the Chinese variety show “Our Love Song,” as reported by The Straits Times.
“During those three years [from 2022 to 2025]I underwent at least 12 IVF cycles, receiving injections almost every single day,” she said.
During this period, Chen took a hiatus from acting to focus on fertility treatments and described the physical and emotional toll, recalling moments when she broke down and cried on the street while hugging her husband.
Taiwanese actress Joe Chen asked whether she pursued IVF under family pressure. Chen clarified: “That was not the case. It’s purely because I love children. I believe having a baby is an important part of life.”
Chen revealed that Dai eventually asked her to stop the treatments, unable to bear seeing her suffer. At one point, he even considered divorce due to a combination of personal stress, including a family member’s deteriorating health, financial pressures, and the couple living apart for over a year due to work commitments.
Determined to resolve their issues, Chen insisted that Dai fly to her filming location for an honest, face-to-face conversation.
“I’m the kind of person who fixes a broken TV, not someone who just replaces it,” she told him.
The meeting allowed Dai to explain the pressures he was under, while Chen expressed her hurt at being kept in the dark. They ultimately decided to give their marriage another chance. Since reconciling, the couple have celebrated anniversaries together, Chen has returned to acting, and they have adopted a stray cat as part of rebuilding their family life.
When asked whether they would continue trying for a child, Dai said: “It’s all down to fate.”
Dai, 41, was talent-spotted by MediaCorp while in Shanghai, and gained fame in 2008 for his role in the hit series “The Little Nyonya,” earning a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2009 Star Awards.
Chen, 47, made her acting debut in 1996. The couple married in 2016.
