New Delhi: After suffering two consecutive defeats against India in the 2025 Asia Cup the Pakistan cricket team is once again considering including its former captain Babar Azam in the T20I setup. Babar has been out of Pakistans T20I format since December 2024 and has been consistently ignored by the selectors. However the situation now appears to be changing and the board is considering him as a last resort to strengthen the team. Attempt to Include Babar in the Asia Cup As per reports the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) tried to include Babar in the squad during the Asia Cup. The board wanted to immediately bring him to the UAE and include him in the team. However tournament organizers made it clear that changes to the team were impossible unless a player was injured. However the decision to include Babar in the squad had to be postponed until the next series. PCBs New Directive According to a report in The Express Tribune following the defeats against India PCB officials have instructed the selectors to include Babar Azam in the T20 squad as soon as possible. Sources say the board considers Babars experience and stability vital to the team. Captain Salam Ali Aghas role will also be evaluated based on his performance in the Asia Cup. Return Set for Next Series Reports also claim that Babar will now be seen in the Pakistan vs. South Africa T20 series next month. Mohammad Rizwan may also return as wicketkeeper if Mohammad Hariss poor form continues. Both Babar and Rizwan are currently not the selectors first choices but due to the circumstances they are being considered to get back in the shorter format squad. Story Highlights After two defeats to India the PCB is actively pursuing Babar Azams return. Asia Cup organizers ruled out any last-minute changes. Babars return is almost certain for the next T20 series against South Africa. Rizwan may also get another chance as a wicketkeeper.
