Former Uttar Pradesh minister and Samajwadi Party leader Gayatri Prajapati was attacked by a prisoner in District Jail Lucknow on Tuesday (September 30). Prajapati suffered serious head injuries in the incident and was referred to KGMU Trauma Center amidst tight security after first aid. His condition is now being reported out of danger.

The case is around 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening. While undergoing treatment at the jail hospital, Gayatri asked the captive Biswas on cleaning duty to bring water. After late, the argument increased and in anger, the prisoner attacked Gayatri by taking out an iron rod from the drawer of the table. Bleeding on the head started bleeding. Other prisoners somehow controlled the attacker.

In the jail hospital, doctors immediately gave first aid and put six stitches on the head. He was then referred to KGMU from the district hospital.

Late night SP MLA Maharaji Prajapati, who is the wife of Gayatri, reached the hospital. At the same time, his daughter Ankita Prajapati said emotionally, “My father has been attacked with a fatal attack. He has been innocent, in jail for eight and a half years. We are the only request from the judiciary and the Chief Minister to provide justice.” Ankita further alleged that the victim woman has been saying for a long time that nothing was wrong with her, but no one listened to her.

After being injured, Prajapati said, “The attacker prisoner is a vicious criminal. He suddenly attacked, while I had no dispute with anyone. I am happy that my life survived.” Samajwadi Party national spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chand expressed concern over the incident and wrote on X (East Twitter), “The news of the attack on former minister Gayatri Prajapati in jail is worrying. The jail administration should provide them with appropriate treatment.”

The jail administration said Gayatri had suffered minor injuries and he was treated. The statement said, “The prisoner on cleaning duty in the jail hospital was shocked after hearing. During this time, the prisoner hurt Prajapati from the part of the cupboard. He has been treated and now he is completely healthy.”
