Waqf Act protest India shutdown, new date soon!

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has decided to postpone the Bharat Bandh announced on 3 October. In this regard, the emergency meeting of the board was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani.

The meeting discussed the situation of several religious festivals on the same dates in various states of the country.

The statement issued after the meeting stated that no citizen’s religious program should be obstructed, keeping this in mind, it has been decided unanimously that the proposed India shutdown should be postponed on 3 October. The board said that new dates will be announced soon.

The shutdown was to be held from 8 am to 2 pm on Friday, 3 October, calling for shops, offices and business establishments.

However, essential medical services, hospitals and drug stores were to be exempted from shutdown. But now it has been postponed. The board said that the new date will be announced soon.

However, the board also clarified that their protest movement against the Waqf Amendment Act would continue. Apart from this, all other programs decided by the board will be held at the pre -scheduled time.

AIMPLB spokesperson and National Convenor of Waqf Bachao Abhiyan, Dr. SQR Ilyas said that the bandh is being postponed in some states in view of the upcoming religious festivals on this day.

Ilyas said, “Reports have shown that religious programs of our fellow citizens are to be organized on 3 October in many areas. Keeping this in mind, the board discussed and decided to unanimously postpone the bandh.”

The board spokesperson reiterated that the movement would continue in its scheduled manner.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board believes that the Waqf Amendment Act can affect the religious and social properties of Muslim society. Therefore, the board had already declared it unacceptable and announced to run a movement across the country.
