
Gurgaon Gurgaon Administration has now decided to take more strict action on driving driving by drinking alcohol. Earlier, only the challan was deducted in such cases, but now the officials plan that the license will be suspended for 3 to 6 months when caught for the first time. The license can also be permanently canceled by repeated mistakes. This provision is under the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 (Motor Vehicles Act, 1988).

Trying to reduce accidents and deaths
This step is being taken to reduce road accidents and deaths in the city. In the first half of 2025, 541 road accidents occurred in Gurgaon (Gurgaon), in which 223 people died. According to police data, more than 5,000 challans were cut by those driving drunk by September. Comparison, this figure was 25,968 in 2024 and 5,181 in 2023.
Police say that most of the cases of driving driving were reported around party zones like Sector 29, Cyber Park, MG Road, Golf Course Road and 32 Avenue. It is often deployed here. The police also keep a special eye on Mall Mile, Ambines Mall, Galleria Market and Sector 29 HUDA Market. Officials believe that people will be cautious with tight fine and license suspension.
In the recent road safety meeting, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar (Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar at a Road Safety Meeting) said that the rules of license suspension are already present, now it is necessary to implement them strictly so that the cases of drink and drive can be stopped. According to Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, there may be a fine of up to Rs 10,000, six months in jail or both if caught for the first time. At the same time, a fine of Rs 15,000 can be sentenced to two years of jail and cancellation of license for making a mistake in three years.

The administration will now also strict on the process of making driving license. The deputy commissioner has ordered all SDMs to monitor the process of issuing licenses in their respective areas and ensure adherence to safety standards. For road safety, officials have been instructed to identify the accident potential areas and improve it. These include steps such as cutting of trees, repairing T-junction and U-turn and applying reflector before winter.
Apart from this, awareness campaigns will also be conducted to inform people about traffic rules and to follow them. The police have also been asked to make a special action plan to curb high speed and careless driving.
