PTC Web Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday declared former legislator Harmeet Singh Sandhu as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the upcoming byelection on the Tarn Taran Assembly seat. The seat became vacant after the demise of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June this year. The Election Commission is yet to issue the official schedule for the bypoll.
CM Mann made the announcement while addressing a public gathering in Tarn Taran during the launch of a rural link road project. “He (Sandhu) is your choice,” the Chief Minister said, highlighting local support for the candidate.
Harmeet Singh Sandhu has represented the Tarn Taran constituency three times in the Punjab Assembly. He first won as an independent candidate in 2002, followed by two victories in 2007 and 2012 on a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ticket. However, he faced defeat in the 2017 and 2022 elections.
Sandhu, who joined AAP in July this year, will now contest under the party’s banner, marking his return to electoral politics in Tarn Taran.
