Phu Quoc, voted the second most beautiful island in Asia last year by readers of American magazine Condé Nast Traveler, received 1.2 million foreign arrivals between January and September, up 65.8% year-on-year and surpassing this year’s target.

Last year, the island received 960,000 foreign tourists and has aimed to receive 1 million this year.

So far this year, Phu Quoc has welcomed 6.5 million visitors including domestic travelers, already surpassing last year’s total of 5.9 million, according to An Giang Province’s Department of Tourism.

Andy Nguyen, director of Sunset Beach Resort & Spa Phu Quoc, said international guests have accounted for about 90% of visitors in recent months, with revenue up 30% year-on-year, Voice of Vietnam reported.

“The high number of international guests, even during the rainy season, helps us maintain stable occupancy, increase service revenue, and expand opportunities to promote the island and invest in more entertainment and cultural activities—improving both quality and appeal for visitors,” he said.

October to May is the peak travel season on the island with sunny weather and clear blue sea.

Phu Quocs tourism outlook brightens in the final months of the year as Sun PhuQuoc Airways, the carrier owned by resort and theme park operator Sun Group, prepares for its inaugural flight on Nov. 1.

Last year, it was voted the second most beautiful island in Asia, after Bali of Indonesia, by readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
