LIC Bima Sakhi Scheme: A Step Toward Women’s Economic Empowerment

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has introduced the Bima Sakhi Yojana, a special initiative aimed at empowering women in rural and semi-urban areas by providing them with employment, training, and financial support. This scheme offers women the chance to become certified LIC agents, helping them build sustainable livelihoods while promoting financial literacy and insurance awareness in their communities.

Under this program, women between 18 and 70 years of age who have completed at least Class 10 education are eligible to apply. The selected participants receive specialized training for three years, along with a monthly stipend that begins at ₹7,000 in the first year, ₹6,000 in the second year, and ₹5,000 in the third year—depending on their progress and continued engagement in policy activities.

The Bima Sakhi Yojana is designed to train women to become financially independent by turning them into local insurance ambassadors. During the three-year training period, participants receive hands-on exposure to financial management, policy marketing, customer interaction, and digital tools used in insurance services.

After successfully completing the training, these women officially join LIC as insurance agents, allowing them to earn through policy sales and commissions. This not only provides them a steady income source but also helps LIC expand insurance coverage in remote areas where awareness about financial protection remains limited.

To be eligible for the LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana, applicants must:

• Be female citizens of India.

• Fall within the age range of 18 to 70 years.

• Have completed at least 10th standard education.

• Be willing to undergo a three-year training program and actively engage in LIC’s field operations.

Women already involved in self-help groups (SHGs) or local financial programs are given preference, as they are better positioned to connect with potential policyholders in rural and semi-urban regions.
