Bike maintenance: As soon as the winter season arrives, starting a car for bikes or scooter drivers in the morning is not less than a challenge. As soon as the temperature falls down, many technical changes begin to occur inside the engine. Due to these changes, the engine is difficult to roam and the bike is not late or starting at all. Let’s know, five major reasons that cause problems of not starting a bike in cold weather.
1. Engine oil thickening
In cold weather, the engine oil means mobil oil thick. When the thickness of the oil increases, it does not easily reach all the moving parts of the engine. Because of this, the engine has to work hard to roam. This is the reason that the bike does not start easily despite kick or self-kicking in the morning.
2. Battery weakening or discharge
The low temperature directly affects the performance of the battery. In winter, the chemical activity inside the battery slows down, which reduces the production of current. This problem increases in self-start bikes. If your battery is old or weak, in the cold it is not able to give enough power to rotate the motor, due to which the engine does not start.
3. Spark plug disturbances and gap problems
The role of a spark plug is the most important in turning the engine. But when the fuel is not completely evaporated in the cold, then carbon or dust accumulates on the spark plug. If the gap between its electrodes is not correct, a weak spark is formed. Fuel-air mixtures do not fire due to weak sparks and the engine does not start.
4. Fuel-air mixture imbalance
The correct proportion of petrol and air is very important to start the bike. The engine takes time to heat up, so it needs a little more fuel. If you do not use choke, the fuel falls short. At the same time, if the temperature sensor in a bike with fuel injection (FI) system is bad, then it sends the wrong signal to ECU, so that the engine does not get the right fuel mixture.

Give some time before starting the bike in cold weather. Keep checking the engine oil and battery regularly and clean the spark plug from time to time. Use the choke correctly and if the bike is with a FI system, then do the censor servicing. With these small measures, your bike will start easily every morning in winter.
