24htopnews | October 7, 2025 4:20 AM CST

Synopsis

T-Mobile will bring a new late fee and other changes from November 1. The company is also planning new leadership and updates to its phone plans. Many customers are unhappy about higher charges, while T-Mobile says it wants to handle rising costs and keep improving its 5G service and network.

An extra $10 will be levied on T- mobile customers who are late in paying their due bills, a $3 uptick from $10. The new prices will rein in from November 1. Certain states like Maryland and New York have caps, so some Americans may pay less than others.

On the same day, COO Srini Gopalan will become T-Mobile’s new CEO. T-Mobile has hinted at reasons for the fee hike. During a July earnings call, current CEO Mike Sievert said the company works in a "highly competitive environment" and that competitors are offering "unprecedented device promotions”, as per the report by The Sun.

T-Mobile price hike adds more pressure on users

AT&T and Verizon recently increased prices for their customers, adding to industry-wide cost pressures. The late fee announcement upset some T-Mobile customers on social media. On Reddit, one person said the increase "feels like it's feeding upon those who might have trouble paying their bill one month or they lose their job." They added, "Obviously this isn't an issue if you pay your bill on time."

T-Mobile encourages users who struggle to pay bills to use AutoPay, according to the T-Mobile website. On April 2, T-Mobile raised prices on certain older plans by $5 per month. This did not affect Go5G, Go5G Plus, or Go5G Next subscribers. The company said this was to "tackle rising costs", according to the report by The Sun.

On X, T-Mobile said, "While most customers are not included, we’re wrapping up the price adjustments that began last year in response to rising costs." Joy Dumandan, Consumer Editor at The U.S. Sun said T-Mobile is actively making moves in the cellular market.

T-Mobile expands with new deals and 5G plans

With the staggering $1.35 billion takeover of Mint Mobile owners Ka'ena Corporation—also backed by Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Reynolds—on March 1, 2024, T mobile is expanding base

Reynolds will continue his creative role with Mint. In April 2020, T-Mobile merged with Sprint to deliver a "transformative 5G network." The current acquisition of US Cellular is pitched as creating the "country's largest and fastest 5G network", as per the report by The Sun.

Earlier in 2025, The Wall Street Journal reported that both T-Mobile and Verizon were in talks to buy parts of US Cellular. With T-Mobile moving first, Verizon’s chance seems blocked. T-Mobile’s US Cellular acquisition still needs regulatory approval, with an expected close in 2025. The company stated, "We are still committed to providing low prices and the most value across all plans."

In June 2025, T-Mobile launched three new prepaid plans with 5G speeds, available from June 24, Starter Monthly, $45/month, 15GB high-speed data, unlimited calls and texts. Unlimited Monthly, includes Starter benefits plus 5G data; called the "sweet-spot plan." Unlimited Plus Monthly, includes all Unlimited Monthly benefits plus international perks—unlimited talk and text in the US, Mexico, Canada, and unlimited texting from the US to 215 countries, as stated in the report by The Sun.
