New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi-NCR as intermittent rainfall continued to drench the city and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) through the early hours of Tuesday. The advisory was extended to all districts of the capital, while neighbouring Noida and Ghaziabad were placed under similar alerts. Gurugram and Faridabad in Haryana remain on a yellow warning, signalling lighter but persistent weather activity.
The ongoing spell, which began on Monday and persisted overnight, has been attributed to the first major western disturbance of the post-monsoon season. The system has brought steady drizzle and scattered showers across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, marking the onset of cooler autumnal conditions.

The showers led to a sharp dip in temperatures, with Delhi recording a maximum of 26.5 degrees Celsius on Monday, eight degrees below the seasonal norm, its lowest October day temperature since October 17 last year. The minimum temperature stood at 20.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below average.
IMD’s weekly weather forecast for Delhi
Date | Min Temp | Max Temp | Weather Forecast |
07-Oct | 20 | 28 | Generally cloudy sky with moderate rain |
08-Oct | 21 | 32 | Partly cloudy sky |
09-Oct | 21 | 32 | Mainly Clear sky |
10-Oct | 21 | 33 | Mainly Clear sky |
11-Oct | 21 | 33 | Clear sky |
12-Oct | 22 | 33 | Clear sky |
Meteorologists expect the rainfall to continue through Tuesday before gradually easing later in the day. From Wednesday, northwesterly winds are forecast to sweep into the region, likely driving minimum temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius.
The western disturbance has also caused fresh snowfall in parts of the upper Himalayas, from where cold winds are expected to move into the northern plains by midweek. Gurugram recorded a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius on Monday, nearly six degrees lower than Sunday, while Noida reported around 30 degrees Celsius as its daytime high and 22 degrees Celsius as the minimum.
The IMD has also cautioned that thunderstorms accompanied by hail, lightning, and gusty winds of up to 40 km/h could occur in parts of NCR on Tuesday.
