
When it comes to sending money everyone tries to be extra careful we check the details again and again before hitting the “send” button. But sometimes mistakes happen. So what should you do if you accidentally send money to the wrong bank account or UPI ID? Don’t worry here’s exactly what you need to do. If you used Google Pay PhonePe Paytm or BHIM contact their customer care immediately.Keep these details ready: Transaction receipt UTR number (Unique Transaction Reference) Date and amount of the transaction The support team will register your complaint and raise a refund request through NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India). If the transaction details are correct the money is often reversed to your account within a few days. If the app support doesn’t help go to the NPCI website and use the Dispute Redressal Mechanism section.Provide the required details and NPCI will then investigate the case and if found valid instruct the bank to return your money. How to Reverse a Wrong UPI Transaction 1. Through Your UPI App Most UPI apps like Google Pay PhonePe Paytm or BHIM have a “Help” or “Report a Problem” option. Steps: Open your UPI app and go to the transaction history. Select the wrong transaction. Tap on “Raise a Complaint” or “Report”. Choose “Wrong UPI Transaction” as the issue. Provide all required details: transaction ID date amount and UPI ID. The app’s support team will review your case and may raise a refund request with NPCI. 2. Contact Your Bank If the issue isn’t resolved through your app contact your bank’s customer care or visit your branch directly. Share these details: UPI transaction ID Beneficiary account number or UPI ID Date and time of the transaction Bank staff can initiate a dispute process and request reversal through NPCI. 3. Call the NPCI Helpline You can also report the issue directly by calling the NPCI toll-free number: 1800-120-1740.It’s best to do this immediately after the transaction. 4. Use the NPCI Portal If your issue isn’t resolved within 30 days you can file a complaint on the NPCI website under the Dispute Redressal Mechanism section. You’ll need to provide: Transaction ID UTR number (Unique Transaction Reference) Amount sent Sender and receiver UPI IDs After submission you’ll get a complaint reference number to track your case.
