New Delhi: The BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar made a shocking announcement on Sunday confirming Rohit Sharmas removal as Indias ODI captain. He appointed Shubman Gill as Indias new ODI captain having already witnessed his leadership as the Test captain. In doing so Agarkar indicated that Rohit Sharmas place in Indias plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup is uncertain. Former India cricketer Saba Karim questioned the reason behind Rohits selection given his uncertain future in the team. Aged 38 Rohit would be approaching his 40 by the time the ODI World Cup arrives in 2027. Agarkar along with other selectors and the team management remain unsure if he will carry the form and fitness required for the tournament. As a result Saba Karim feels there wasnt much reason to select a player who is unlikely to play until the next World Cup. Saba Karim questioned Rohits selection Team mein aap kyon rakh rahe hain? (Why are you keeping him in the team?) Karim questioned while speaking on YouTube channel Kadak. Agar woh captain nahin hain to phir ek baat saaf hai na ki aap unka future dekh nahi rahe ki wo 2027 ke World Cup mein rahenge to phir aap aise khiladi ko team mein nahin rakhiye jo aapko lagta hain ki 2027 mein aapke hisaab se maujood nahin rahenge Karim added. (If he is not captaining then it is clear that you dont see his future. You dont feel that he will be a part of the 2027 World Cup. So dont keep a player whom you dont feel would be a part of the 2027 World Cup.) Rohit Sharmas removal as captain an unfair decision? Many have labeled Rohit Sharmas removal as captain an unfair decision. During his tenure India secured the ICC Champions Trophy this year and the T20 World Cup last year. Despite these achievements the selectors did not hesitate to hand the leadership to Shubman Gill. Unhone team ko build kiya hain unhone apko Champions Trophy aur T20 jitaya hai (He built the team won you the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup) Karim concluded.
