OpenAI has launched a new feature letting developers build apps that run inside ChatGPT. Announced at DevDay 2025, users can now access popular services like Booking.com and Spotify without leaving the chat. The feature is live for most users outside the EU, with developer tools also available.

OpenAI has introduced a feature which lets developers create apps that work directly inside ChatGPT. Announcing the feature at the company’s DevDay 2025 event today, OpenAI said that with this one can use popular services such as Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow, all without leaving the chat.

The feature is now live for all logged-in ChatGPT users (outside the EU) on Free, Go, Plus, or Pro plans. OpenAI also shared that a developer preview of the app SDK, the toolkit for building these apps, is now available. “More pilot partners will launch later this year and we expect to bring apps to EU users soon,” the company said in a blog.

CEO Sam Altman said the goal is to help people achieve more in their daily lives: “We want ChatGPT to be a great way for people to make progress, to be more productive, more inventive, to learn faster, to do whatever they’re trying to do in their lives better,” he explained. “[This feature] will enable a new generation of apps that are interactive, adaptive, and personalised, that you can chat with.”

The apps are designed to be used naturally within a conversation. Giving an example in the blog, the company said, “When you start a message to ChatGPT with the name of an available app, like `Spotify, make a playlist for my party this Friday,’ ChatGPT can automatically surface the app in your chat and use relevant context to help.”

ChatGPT can also suggest useful apps based on what you are asking. For example, if a user is talking about buying a new home, ChatGPT can surface the Zillow app as a suggestion so users can browse listings that match their budget on an interactive map right inside ChatGPT

“The magic of this new generation of apps in ChatGPT is how they blend familiar interactive elements like maps, playlists, and presentations with new ways of interacting through conversation,” OpenAI added in its blog.

The announcement comes as ChatGPT’s popularity continues to grow. The platform now has more than 800 million weekly users, up from 100 million in 2023. The number of developers using OpenAI’s tools has also doubled to four million, and API activity has soared from 300 million tokens per minute to 6 billion, according to Altman.

Unlike the GPT Store, which offered tools in a separate space, these new apps are built right into ChatGPT, making them easier to use in day-to-day chats.
