The Jaffar Express was targeted once again on Tuesdaywhen a planted explosive device detonated near Sultankotclose to the Sindh-Balochistan border. The blast caused multiple coaches of the train—en route to Quetta—to derail, leaving several passengers injured.
Initial rescue reports confirm multiple casualties and injuriesthough the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. Rescue teams and security forces have reached the site, with medical crews providing emergency treatment and investigators examining the source of the explosion.
This marks yet another attack on the Jaffar Express in recent months, underscoring ongoing security challenges in Balochistan. In August 2025an IED blast derailed six coaches of the same train in Mastung districtwhile in March 2025, Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) militants hijacked the train in Bolan Passholding over 400 passengers hostage in a deadly standoff.
Balochistan continues to face unrest, with separatist groups frequently targeting transport infrastructure, security convoys, and energy projects. The repeated attacks on the Jaffar Express highlight the urgent need for enhanced railway security and surveillance across Pakistan’s restive border regions.
