Kejriwal's New Residence Allocated
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has successfully secured a Type 7 bungalow at 95 Lodhi Estate for its national convenor and former Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, following an extensive legal battle with the central government. This bungalow was previously allocated to BJP leader and former chairman of the National Minority Commission, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, who contested elections from Punjab but was unsuccessful. The legal proceedings commenced after Kejriwal resigned from the Chief Minister position in 2024. He and his family vacated their residence at 6 Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines in October 2024.

Unlike several other states, Delhi does not have provisions for allocating government housing to former chief ministers, prompting AAP to seek alternative arrangements for their leader. AAP's Rajya Sabha MP, Ashok Mittal, who currently resides at 5 Feroz Shah Road (Type VII), has requested Kejriwal to temporarily relocate while the party initiated legal proceedings demanding that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) identify and allocate an official residence for the national convenor.
AAP argued that as the head of a national party, Kejriwal qualifies for a Type 8 bungalow. Following intervention from the Delhi High Court, central agencies eventually identified 95 Lodhi Estate for this purpose. The Type 7 bungalow allocated to Kejriwal features four bedrooms, a hall, a waiting area, and a dining room, along with two lawns, one of which is smaller. The current camp office consists of two rooms, and staff members have been residing in the staff quarters for nearly a decade.

Sources indicate that Kejriwal and his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, visited the bungalow on Monday. It is anticipated that the family will move in after completing necessary renovations and modifications. This allocation comes amidst memories of the 'Sheesh Mahal' controversy, where Kejriwal faced criticism regarding the renovation of the official Chief Minister's residence in Delhi.
