Start of life as a robber
Ratnakar was born in a Brahmin family, but he started his life as a bandit. He used to loot the path passing, snatch their wealth and property. It became part of his routine.
Meeting with Narada Muni
One day Ratnakar met Narada Muni. When Ratnakar tried to intimidate Narada Muni, the monk remained calm and fear -free. Ratnakar was surprised to see this amazing nature of Narada Muni. He saw that Narada Muni has only Veena and no valuable item. Ratnakar said to Narada Muni, "If I want to save my life, then give me what you have."
Narada Muni’s question and Ratnakar’s curiosity
Narada Muni questioned Ratnakar: "What do you do for your family, are you with them in your deeds?"
Ratnakar asked his family wife and father to know this clearly. This made Ratnakar realize that he would have to bear the fruits of his deeds.
Ratnakar’s spiritual change
Hearing the family, Ratnakar understood the futility of his life and decided to follow the path of change. Narada Muni guided him towards Ram’s name and spiritual knowledge.
Maharishi Valmiki’s penance and Ramayana’s creation
Ratnakar started harsh penance and with the order of Brahma Ji, he started composing a book on the life of Lord Rama. Due to this penance and writing, Ratnakar became famous as Maharishi Valmiki.
Maharishi Valmiki gave shelter to Mother Sita in her ashram and Luv and Kush were born in her ashram. He trained him in education and war art.
