News India Live, Digital Desk: Piles Pain Relief: Piles pain! This is such a problem, about which no one likes to talk openly, but only those who have suffered it know the pain caused by it. Difficulty in sitting, pain and bleeding while defecating… all this troubles not only physically but also mentally. We often think that its treatment will be long and complicated, but do you know that sometimes its pain can be relieved even in 5 minutes? Dr. Wendy, a Stanford-trained gastroenterologist, also believes there are some ways you can get instant relief. So let us know how we can get relief from the unbearable pain of piles in just a few minutes.
What are Piles/Hemorrhoids and why does it happen?
First of all, it is important to understand what piles are. Hemorrhoids is a condition in which the veins in or around the anus become swollen and inflamed. It can be internal or external. Constipation, straining to defecate for too long, pregnancy, and sometimes lifting excess weight can be the main reasons for this.
So, what are the ways to get relief from pain in 5 minutes?
Here are some ways to get quick relief from hemorrhoid pain, based on suggestions from Dr. Wendy and other experts:
- Cold Compress:
The quickest and most effective way to get immediate relief from the pain and swelling of piles is to apply ice. Wrap some ice cubes in a clean cloth and apply it on the painful area for 5-10 minutes. Cold compresses constrict the blood vessels, causing immediate reduction in swelling and pain. You can do this several times a day. - Seat Bath:
‘Sitz bath’ is another wonderful way to get relief from the pain and discomfort of piles. For this, fill a tub with lukewarm water (so much that your hips and lower part are immersed in it) and sit for about 15-20 minutes. It helps in reducing pain, itching and swelling. You can do this 2-3 times a day, especially after defecation. Some people also add Epsom salt to water, which provides more relief. - Uses of Witch Hazel:
Witch hazel is a natural astringent that helps reduce inflammation and provide pain relief. You can use a pad containing witch hazel (such as Preparation H) or soak a cotton swab in witch hazel and apply it directly to the affected area for 5 minutes. It also soothes irritation and itching. - Gentle Wiping:
Always use soft, unscented toilet paper after defecation. Avoid rubbing, instead clean by patting gently. In case of severe pain, you can wash it with plain water and dry it gently. Wet wipes, especially those containing aloe vera or witch hazel, may also be beneficial. - Wear loose clothes:
If you have piles, avoid wearing tight clothes and underwear. Wearing loose-fitting clothes improves air circulation and reduces friction on the affected area, which provides relief from pain and irritation. - Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers:
For temporary relief, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. These help in reducing swelling and pain.
Some important things:
These remedies are meant to provide immediate relief from the symptoms of piles, but if you are experiencing frequent pain, excessive bleeding, or persistent pain, contact a doctor without delay. There are many options available for treating hemorrhoids, and with the right diagnosis you can get a permanent solution.
Remember, lifestyle changes like eating a high-fiber diet, drinking enough water, and exercising regularly can go a long way in preventing hemorrhoids.
