Cricket Gully | October 8, 2025 1:39 AM CST

England Women's left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone moved to the third position in the list of England's most wickets in Women's ODIs. Ahead of the match against Bangladesh Women in the Women's World Cup 2025, Ecclestone had 127 wickets from 76 matches and was fifth on the list.

But the spinner put up an excellent show in the World Cup match, taking three important wickets, taking her overall to 130 wickets in 77 games. With this, she overtook Laura Marsh and moved into third spot, only behind Katherine Sciver-Brunt (170) and Jenny Gunn (136).

BAN-W Collapsed Early In Spite Of Sobhana's Resistance

Bangladesh Women defeated in the toss and decided to bat first in the hope of putting up a competitive score. Sharmin Akhter provided a good beginning with some initial boundaries, but Lauren Bell dented the prospects early on by removing Rubya for 4 within the first five overs.

That early loss of a wicket hampered the scoring rate and created pressure on the middle order as wickets fell at regular intervals. But Sobhana Mostary played with incredible composure, getting 60 off 108 balls, which was only the fourth fifty-plus by Bangladesh Women in the Women's World Cup history.

Bangladesh received some late push from Rabeya Khan, who scored an aggressive unbeaten 43 off 27 balls, scoring six fours and a six. Notably, her six off Linsey Smith was just the second six by a Bangladesh Women's player ever in World Cup history.

In spite of the late spurt, Bangladesh was only able to score 178 runs in 50 overs, being bowled out with two balls remaining. The total handed over England Women an easy chase in their group-stage encounter.
