Amidst preparations for the Bihar Assembly elections, information has emerged about changes in the salaries of presiding officers deployed on election duty. The Election Commission has announced an increase in its pay this time.

Presiding officers previously received 350 rupees per day, but this time the amount has been increased. They will now be paid 500 rupees per day or a lump sum of 2,000 rupees. This change will not only provide financial benefits to the officers on duty but will also increase their participation and enthusiasm in the election process.

Presiding officers are a vital part of the election process. They are stationed at polling stations and oversee the entire voting process. Their responsibility includes ensuring that voting is fair, free, and smooth.

Presiding officers also ensure the convenience of voters at polling stations. They monitor the operation of polling stations, the security of EVMs, and the updating of voter lists. They immediately report any discrepancies or irregularities to higher officials.

Other benefits provided to presiding officers during election duty include travel allowance, food, and essential amenities. This time, they will receive a payment of ₹500 per day or a lump sum of ₹2,000, ensuring fair compensation for their hard work.

Dates Announced

The Election Commission has announced the dates for the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. Voting will take place on November 6 and 11, with the results declared on November 14. With this announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has also come into effect in Bihar. The opposition had previously raised several questions with the Commission regarding the SIR (voter list). On September 30, 2025, the Commission released the final SIR list, in which a total of 7,41,92,357 voters are registered in Bihar.
