MS Dhoni in an MI training kit
The legendary MS Dhoni is expected to return to action for the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) next year. However, before the 2026 mini auction, the wicketkeeper-batter set social media ablaze with the tank-top he wore to a football match with his friends.
Dhoni wore a white tank-top with the Mumbai Indians' (MI) logo and a few sponsors of the five-time champions. While the others wore football boots, Dhoni was standing barefoot in the picture. This picture has gone viral on social media in no time. Fans have been discussing the former India skipper's choice of attire for a game of football.
Some Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans' emotions seem to have taken a hit as they have been at loggerheads with MI supporters for several years, with both teams having rich histories and unprecedented success.

Apart from being a decorated cricketer, Dhoni loves playing football. He caught the attention of fans with his footballing skills during warm-ups ahead of cricket matches and also during exhibition games involving cricketers and Bollywood celebrities.
Even in Dhoni's biopic, it was shown that he was a goalkeeper during his school days before his sports teacher convinced him to play cricket.
While some fans have been speculating about Dhoni's move to the Mumbai Indians ahead of next season, it is highly unlikely because of the 44-year-old's association with the Men in Yellow. Dhoni is a cult figure in Chennai, and his rapport with CSK's management is exemplary.
In IPL 2025, Dhoni led CSK after Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured early in the tournament. The Super Kings finished last on the points table, with just four wins and 10 defeats from 14 matches. This was the first time they ended at the bottom of the standings in an IPL season. Ahead of IPL 2026, CSK are expected to overhaul their squad, and Dhoni should be the one spearheading them through the transition.
