Karva Chauth Festival Overview

The festival of Karva Chauth is set to be observed nationwide on Friday, October 10th. This annual celebration occurs on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Kartika. It is particularly prominent in North and Central India, where wives fast without water for the longevity of their husbands, concluding the fast after sighting the moon at night. Interestingly, there are temples dedicated to Chauth Mata in Rajasthan and Ujjain, where women visit to seek blessings for everlasting happiness.

This temple is situated in Barwada town, Madhopur district, Rajasthan. Renowned for granting the boon of longevity to husbands, it is believed that those who pray here will have husbands who live long lives. Nestled in the Aravalli Mountains, devotees must ascend a lengthy staircase to reach the temple courtyard, which becomes bustling with women during Karva Chauth. Chauth Mata is considered a form of Goddess Gauri, and it is said that wishes made at this temple are always fulfilled. The temple also attracts many visitors during Navratri and showcases the rich architectural heritage of Rajasthan, built by ruler Bhim Singh.
