CGHS reforms 2025: After the 3% increase in DA, the central government has given another big good news to the central employees before Diwali. Let us tell you that after 10 years, the Central Government has made a big change in the rates of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). This change in CGHS will be implemented from October 13. This will provide relief to about 46 lakh employees and pensioners.

Private hospitals will also benefit

The new rates of CGHS will now be determined on the basis of hospital category, city category and ward type. This will also benefit private hospitals as the rates have been increased by an average of 25-30%. The government has directed all hospitals to accept the new rates otherwise they will be removed from the list. The move is expected to improve cashless treatment and increase the revenue of hospitals.

Government employees were complaining for many years

Let us tell you that for many years, government employees and pensioners have been complaining that CGHS affiliated hospitals refuse to provide cashless treatment. Patients had to pay for the treatment themselves and then get a refund after months.

What problems did private hospitals face?

Private hospitals, on the other hand, argued that the old rates were too low and did not reflect current medical expenses. It is noteworthy that the last major change in CGHS rates was made in 2014. Since then, only minor improvements have been implemented and no comprehensive amendments have been made.

Employee unions had submitted a memorandum to the government

In August this year, the National Federation of Central Government Employees Unions had submitted a memorandum to the government, stating that the lack of cashless services was causing economic hardship for employees and pensioners. After this, the government took this important decision.

New rates will be based on these factors

  • Hospital Recognition (NABH/NABL,
  • Type of Hospital (General or Super Specialty)
  • City Category (X, Y, Z)
  • type of patient ward (General, Semi-Private, Private)
  • According to the new rules the hospitals whichNABH/NABL Those not accredited will receive 15% lower rates.
  • Super specialty hospitals will get 15% higher rates.

Rates as per city category

  • Y (Tier-II) cities: 10% less than X cities
  • Z (Tier-III) cities: 20% less than X cities
  • North-eastern states, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh fall in Y category.

Ward wise rates

• General Ward: 5% less

• Private ward: 5% more

• Rates for outpatient treatment, radiotherapy, daycare and minor procedures will remain unchanged.

• The rates of cancer surgery will remain the same, but the rates of chemotherapy and radiotherapy have been revised.

Requirements for hospitals

The Health Ministry has directed all hospitals to accept the new rates by October 13. Hospitals not doing so may be de-empanelled (removed from the CGHS list).

Hope for improvement in cashless treatment

With the new rates, it is expected that hospitals will now be able to easily provide cashless treatment to CGHS patients. This will free employees and pensioners from the hassle of spending money from pocket and returning the money.
