Nobel Prize 2025 in Physics: The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced the Nobel Prize 2025 for the field of Physics. John Clark, Mitchell H. Devoret and John M. Martinis will be honored with this award. It has been decided to award the Nobel Prize in Physics to the three scientists “for the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunneling and energy quantization in electric circuits”.

This year’s physics laureates are John Clark (University of California, Berkeley, USA), Michelle H. Devoret (Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut) and
Experiments on a chip by John M. Martinis (University of California, Santa Barbara, US) and John M. Martinis (University of California, Santa Barbara, US) demonstrated quantum physics in action. A major question in physics is what is the maximum size that a system can exhibit quantum mechanical effects. The 2025 Physics Prize winners conducted experiments with an electrical circuit in which they demonstrated both quantum mechanical tunneling and quantized energy levels in a system large enough to hold in a hand.
Transistors in computer microchips are an example of established quantum technology that is all around us. The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics has provided opportunities to develop the next generation of quantum technologies, including quantum cryptography, quantum computers and quantum sensors.
