Diwali 2025: In Sanatan Dharma, the festival of Deepawali is not only of light and happiness, but also a symbol of religious faith and prosperity. On this day, after worshiping Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, the house and courtyard are decorated with lamps. But this time there is a confusion among the people on the exact date of Diwali of 2025. There is talk of celebrating Diwali on 20 October and on 21 October.
The Kashi Scholar Council has removed this confusion on the exact dates of the five -day Deepotsav from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj. The council scholars have clarified that the festival of Deepawali will be celebrated on 20 October 2025 (Monday), determining all the dates based on the rules of astrology and theology.
Decision of Kashi Scholar Council
National General Secretary of Kashi Scholarship Prof. Ram Narayan Dwivedi said that according to Surya Siddhanta, there has been a tradition of almanac construction and the decision results according to the rules of theology. He informed that Amavasya Tithi is starting on 20 October 2025 at 02:45 pm, which will remain till 04:15 am the next day.
According to theology, Amavasya, which falls in Pradoshkal (time after sunset), is considered acceptable on Deepawali. In such a situation, Pradosh Vyapini Amavasya will remain on the night of 20 October on the basis of calculation, so the festival of Deepawali will be celebrated on this day.
What is the reason for confusion?
According to Prof. Dwivedi, in some almanacs it is incorrectly shown that Pradosh Vyapini Amavasya is going till October 21, which is not possible mathematically. He said that to remove this illusion, it was discussed among the almanacs and it was decided that the dates of all the major festivals would be declared unanimously, so that there is no confusion in the Sanatan tradition.
Confusion born from two types of almanac
Jyotishacharyas say that two types of almanacs are prevalent in the country-
-
Traditional almanac
-
Data based almanac taken from Physical Astronomy Center
Traditional almanacs are formed in conformity with theology and astrological principles, while the data taken from the Physical Astronomy Center is not considered religiously valid. This is the reason that in some almanacs, there is a difference of differences on dates.
Diwali is on 20 October
Jyotirvid of Kashi Prof. According to Vinay Kumar Pandey, there is no dispute about Diwali. They said, "The Amavasya Tithi starts at around 2 pm on 20 October and ends at 4 pm the next day. Since Amavasya should be found in Pradoshkal in Deepawali, this date is acceptable only on October 20."
He said that it is being claimed by some almanacs that Amavasya is going till the next day, but Amavasya is falling on 20 October in Pradoshkal (2 hours after sunset). Therefore, Deepawali is not being proved on 21 October.
