Zubeen Garg Death Case: In the case of Zubin Garg’s suspicious death in Singapore, the police have taken a big step and arrested his cousin and Assam Police Deputy SP Sandipan Garg. Sandipan Garg was present with the singer at the time of the incident and has now been detained to complete the legal process.

According to the police, Sandipan was interrogated several times in the last few days and now he has been arrested and the judicial process is being completed. CID special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta told PTI, "We have arrested Sandipan Garg. We are now completing the necessary legal formalities."

Fifth arrest in the case

This is the fifth arrest in the case of suspicious death of Zubin Garg. Earlier, the main organizer of North-East India Festival, Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma and his two band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta have been arrested. All four have already been sent to police custody.

Zubin’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami gave a statement to the police that the singer was poisoned to death by his manager Siddharth Sharma and festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta in Singapore. Goswami told that "A conspiracy was hatched so that Zubin’s death could be presented as an accidental incident."

In the detailed grounds of arrest, Goswami also told that Siddharth Sharma had asked him not to share the videos of the yacht with anyone. According to the note, Goswami alleged that Mr Sharma and Mr Shyamkanu Mahanta poisoned the victim and deliberately chose the foreign location to conceal their conspiracy. The four accused arrested in this case have been sent on police remand for 14 days.

Controversy over Zubin Garg’s death

52-year-old Zubin Garg died while swimming in the sea in Singapore on September 19. In his funeral, he was given farewell with state honors in Kamarkuchi, Assam. The second post-mortem report also tried to remove any doubt in the death.

The investigation into this suspicious death was initiated due to public pressure, allegations and to maintain transparency of the investigation. The Assam government has also constituted a nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate this matter.
