State-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a new Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service in India. This service allows users to make calls over Wi-Fi networks, even if the mobile signal in their area is weak or nonexistent. With this new feature, BSNL is directly competing with private telecom companies like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, which have been offering Wi-Fi calling to their customers for years.

How does VoWiFi work?

BSNL's VoWiFi service allows users to make clear and strong calls even in low-signal or indoor areas. This feature is extremely useful for those living in low-network zones or indoors.

To use this feature, you need:

A VoWiFi-supported smartphone (available on modern Android and iPhone models)

A stable Wi-Fi network (such as home broadband)

The latest software update

How to use the BSNL VoWiFi service?

Insert a BSNL SIM card into your phone.

Enable the VoWiFi feature on your phone.

Connect your phone to a stable Wi-Fi network.

No additional app or hardware required.
Note: Older phones that don't support VoWiFi will not be able to use this service.
Pricing and Availability
Completely free: Users can make calls over Wi-Fi networks at no additional charge.

Improved connectivity: Easy to make calls in areas with low signal.
Initial launch: Launched in the South and West circles, with plans to expand nationwide soon.
This move is part of BSNL's 4G network expansion and 25th anniversary celebrations.

BSNL Network Expansion

BSNL has installed over 100,000 mobile towers so far. The company now plans to install approximately 97,500 more towers to strengthen its network coverage across India. BSNL's new VoWiFi service ensures free and better calling in areas with weak signals. This move strengthens BSNL's position against private telecom companies and provides users across the country with a better connectivity experience.
