Chennai: A 16-year-old student tragically died after collapsing in his school classroom in Kundrathur, Chennai. The victim, identified as Venkatesan, was the son of Saravanan, a resident of Manikandan Nagar.

Venkatesan was an 11th-standard student at the Government Higher Secondary School in Kollassery. The tragedy unfolded on October 6, shortly after the quarter exams, when he unexpectedly fainted during class. His teachers acted swiftly, rushing him to a nearby private hospital. He was later transferred to the Chennai Government Hospital for further treatment. Despite medical efforts, Venkatesan succumbed to his condition yesterday morning. The hospital authorities formally informed the Kundrathur police of his death.

A Pattern of Unexplained Deaths Emerges

Preliminary police investigations, which included conversations with the student’s family, revealed that Venkatesan had been using his mobile phone extensively during the recent school holidays. On the day of the incident, he had complained of a headache before suddenly collapsing. However, the police have emphasized that the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after the autopsy report is received, and an intensive investigation remains ongoing.

This incident bears a disturbing resemblance to another recent tragedy. Last September, in Udumalaipet, Tirupur district, a 17-year-old girl named Bhuvaneswari also collapsed and died in her classroom. She was a Plus Two student at the Bharathiyar Centenary Government Girls Higher Secondary School and was residing at a local hostel. The consecutive nature of these two unexplained sudden deaths of students in educational institutions has created a stir.
