Especially during Chhath and Diwali, when the crowd of people returning to Bihar is so much that the tickets on IRCTC get full within a few minutes of opening. In such a situation, getting a direct ticket becomes almost impossible. People are not able to get direct train, in such a situation, if you have to go home but are not getting the train, then you can plan a break journey with some wisdom. A break journey will not only make the journey successful but will also be comfortable.
What is break journey?
Break journey means traveling by dividing the same route into two or more parts. That is, if you are not able to get a direct ticket from Delhi to Patna, then you can book one ticket from Delhi to Varanasi or Mughalsarai and from there another ticket to Patna. In this you will have to travel in different trains, but you can reach home easily because it is easy to get tickets for break journey.
Why is this method beneficial?
Break journey not only helps you get tickets but also increases your chances of seat confirmation.
Suppose, all the trains from Delhi to Patna are waiting, but there are seats available in the train from Delhi to Varanasi or Gaya. Now if you buy a ticket till there and do the rest of the journey by another train, then you can easily reach home.
Apart from this, some stations like-
Varanasi, Mughalsarai (Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction), Arrah, Gaya, Sasaram and Deendayalpur are the cities from where onward trains or buses are available to almost every district of Bihar.
How to book a break journey?
- On IRCTC, first check the tickets up to the station where seats are available.
- For example,
- If you are not able to get a ticket from Delhi to Patna, then first search for Varanasi from Delhi.
- Then take a separate ticket from Varanasi to Patna.
- Both the tickets will be on different PNR, but if you keep the right time difference (at least 2 hours), the journey will be completed smoothly.
