Upi payments without pin:The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has taken a historic step in the world of digital payments during the Global Fintech Fest 2025 in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Now the need for PIN for UPI transaction is going to end. Instead, the option of biometric authentication ie fingerprint and face recognition is being given. This new system is not only considered more secure, but it will also prove to be a milestone in making digital payment simple and accessible.
Navi UPI first implemented
Let us tell you that during the Global Fintech Fest, Navi UPI has first attained the distinction of becoming the first such platform in the country by implementing this new technology, where UPI transactions can be verified from biometric instead of pin. This means that now users will be able to pay their smartphone’s fingerprint sensor or face unlock system without paying a pin. This feature will be completely optional, but with its arrival the payment process will become more comfortable and intensified.
Pin instead of biometrics, easy and fast payment
Through the on-device biometric authentication announced by NPCI, users will not have to enter a pin in every transaction. This will prove to be beneficial especially for senior citizens and those using UPI for the first time. This system will emerge as a sharp, accessible and more secure option, making digital payments more comprehensive.
Upi Lite from Smart Glass and Voice Command
In this program, NPCI made another big announcement – UPI Lite integration with smart devices. Now users will be able to make small payments through wearables like smart glass. Transactions without mobile or PIN will be possible by scanning the QR code or by giving a voice command. This technique has been developed especially keeping everyday small payments in mind, so that digital payments can be made more comfortable.
Easy UPI setup from face authentication
The process of setting up or resetting of UPI’s PIN is also further simplified. NPCI has launched the facility of Aadhaar-based face authentication through UIDAI’s FactorD app. This will be especially useful for new users who do not have a debit card. With this technology, it will be very easy and faster to connect new users with the UPI system, which will further strengthen India’s digital payment network.
Big change for Indian economy
This change in UPI technology can prove to be a major turn for Indian digital economy. While on the one hand it will improve the user experience, on the other hand it will also make digital payment more inclusive and safe. With this initiative of NPCI and RBI, India is once again presenting the leading example of Fintech Innovation to the world.
