The celebrity edition of The Traitorsmakes its debut on Wednesday night with a hots of famous faces set to enter the castle. The A-list version follows the successful civilian edition of the hit BBC show, where a group of contestants known as the 'Faithful' aim to identify and oust a covert group of 'Traitors' who are attempting to knock them out of the game.
The series will feature a dazzling line-up of 19 famous faces, including the BBC's Wimbledon presenter Clare Balding, former England rugby union ace Joe Marler and legendary Team GB Olympian Tom Daley. The lure for them will be a £100,000 cash prize for a charity chosen by the winner.
However, unlike the regular series, the celebrities will receive a wage for their appearance. Typically, the contestants aren't paid a flat-rate just for participating, instead receiving a daily rate before eventually pocketing the prize pot.
But, according to journalist Marina Hyde on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, each celebrity contestant has been given a £40,000 salary for the nine one-hour episodes, filmed over three weeks in a Scottish highlands castle, reports Wales Online.
While the sum is certainly not to be scoffed at, our three sporting figures involved in the show are unlikely to be participating for the money on offer, given their respective net worths.

Balding, 54, has been a staple of British sport for three decades, becoming one of the most beloved presenters on television. She made her first on-screen appearance presenting highlights of the Royal Ascot in 1995, and has presented coverage of Crufts for the BBC from 2004 to 2009 and for Channel 4 since 2013.
The Cambridge graduate was once a leading amateur jockey and later became the BBC's lead horse racing presenter, before covering eight Olympic Games and, more recently, Wimbledon.

Balding's extensive career has seen her amass a fortune estimated at around the £1million mark, having earned between £205,000 and £209,999 from her BBC salary in 2022/23 alone.
The show's £40,000 pay out is even less significant to Daley, who won four World Championships and an Olympic gold medal in diving. The retired 31-year-old is reportedly worth around £3m.
But that's not directly down to his sporting success, with Team GB athletes not paid for winning medals. Most of Daley's wealth stems from his various brand endorsements and sponsorships, such as those with Filette, British Gas and Adidas.

Harlequins legend Marler, 35, has had an illustrious 15-year career, becoming one of rugby's most highly rated props. He inked several lucrative contracts, with his last one before hanging up his boots in 2024 reportedly netting him £450,000 annually.
It's believed that Marler raked in close to £4m from his rugby career and various other ventures, including sponsorships, his podcast and numerous media projects.
