Patna: Now in Bihar, people who register a case in the police station will get a copy of the FIR in their own language. Be it Maithili, Santhali or Nepali. NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) Director IPS Alok Ranjan has written a letter and issued instructions in this regard to the police of all the states including Bihar.

This is the whole process

Till now the copy of FIR was given only in Hindi, English or some selected state languages, but now this facility has been made more widespread. According to the new instructions of NCRB, the complainant who comes to the police station to register a case will first be asked in which language he wants a copy of the FIR. After that a copy of the FIR will be made available in the same language.

A total of 23 languages are included

According to the information, now a copy of the FIR can be provided to the complainant in a total of 23 languages. Apart from Hindi and English, these languages include Maithili, Santhali, Nepali, Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

NCRB ADG has sent a letter in this regard to SP, Range IG and DIG of all the districts of Bihar. It has been instructed that arrangements for giving a copy of the FIR to the complainant in the language of his choice should be ensured in all circumstances.

This is the complete system

For this system, NCRB has prepared an AI-powered language translator named ‘Bhasini’. This system will work under ‘Crime Multi Agency Center (CRY-MAC)’. There is already a facility to register FIR online through CCTNS in all the police stations across the country, in which Bhashini has now been added.

As soon as you open the Bhashini platform, options of 23 languages appear. Police personnel can translate the FIR by clicking on any of these languages. After that a copy in the same language will be printed and handed over to the complainant.
