New Delhi. The next big pay revision for government employees is not far away. It has been almost a decade since the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, and now discussions have intensified on the possibilities of the 8th Pay Commission. The biggest curiosity of the employees is that how much will their salary increase now?
Soul of Pay Commission: Fitment Factor
The foundation of any pay commission is the fitment factor. This is a coefficient by which the existing basic salary is multiplied to determine the new basic salary. In the 7th Pay Commission, this factor was kept at 2.57, due to which the minimum basic salary increased from ₹ 7,000 to ₹ 18,000. Now there has been no official announcement of the fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission, but the possible figures ranging from 1.92 to 2.86 are being discussed in full swing in the reports.
Expected salary of basic pay people is ₹47,600
If you currently fall in Pay Level 8 and your basic salary is ₹ 47,600, then let us see what your new salary could be on different fitment factors:
1.92 fitment factor New probable basic salary: ₹91,392
2.08 fitment factor New probable basic salary: ₹99,008
2.86 New probable basic salary based on fitment factor: ₹1,36,136
It is clear that the higher the fitment factor, the greater will be the increase in the new salary. However, considering the traditions and economic situation, a fitment factor of 1.92 is considered to be the most practical option. But many employee organizations are demanding that the fitment factor be kept at least 2.86, so that the burden of inflation can be balanced.
