Owner of poisonous syrup manufacturing company arrested in Tamil Nadu, 20 children have lost their lives so far

The owner of Tamil Nadu pharmaceutical company ‘Sreesan Pharma’ has been arrested. This is the same company that manufactured ‘Coldriff Cough Syrup’, in which adulteration was found and due to which children were dying in many states. The owner of this company, Ranganathan, has been arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police from Chennai. Many children had died after drinking this poisonous syrup and a reward of Rs 20,000 was also announced on his arrest. What is Coldrif syrup? Coldrif is a medicine given to children to treat cold and cough symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and watery eyes. Tests conducted by Tamil Nadu authorities found a sample of the syrup to contain “diethylene glycol”, a toxic and harmful substance, and it was declared adulterated. India’s top drug regulator has admitted serious flaws in drug manufacturing practices. In one of its advisories, it was said that inspection of several factories found that the companies were not checking the raw materials and active ingredients of each batch. Preparations are on to take action against the company after large-scale adulteration was found in the syrup. Making a serious revelation, Tamil Nadu DCD has taken strict action against the factory of Srisan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers. The department has immediately stopped production at the factory and initiated the process of canceling the manufacturing license. Samples of other syrups were taken. The DCD also took samples of four other syrups and seized the stock in the factory and stopped further distribution. Priority testing was done at the Government Drug Testing Laboratory in Chennai and a statewide alert was issued directing to stop distribution at wholesale and retail levels.
