United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who is on India visit, said that UK is a perfect partner to be a part of India's journey of becoming third largest economy in three years.
"India on track to become 3rd largest economy by 2028, UK perfectly placed to be partner in that journey," said UK PM Keir Starmer in Mumbai.
The India-UK trade deal is a launchpad to boost British leadership in areas ranging from technology to life sciences to renewable energy and more, he said, adding that the two countries are also deepening the UK-India Technology Security Initiative.
The British PM, who arrived in India on Wednesday, said he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and looked at the outcome both of the countries want, which focused on ending the conflict.
On President Trump's Gaza peace plan, Starmer said the deal was a real breakthrough.
"This will come as a profound relief for the hostages and their families and civilian population in Gaza, and for the whole world. We will now work with our partners to ensure that this deal is implemented in full and without delay," he said.
Earlier during the day, Starmer met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday in the country's financial capital. The leaders shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.
On Wednesday, Starmer held a series of wide-ranging interactions in Mumbai. He met with business leaders and described the India-UK trade partnership as "really important".
Speaking at an interaction with industry representatives, he said, "This is the biggest trade mission that the United Kingdom has ever sent to India."
He noted that his visit marks the "return leg" after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to the UK earlier this year.
Calling the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed in July this year between the two countries "really important", Starmer said, "It's the biggest deal we've struck since we left the European Union. I think it's also the biggest deal that India has ever struck, so it's hugely important."
