Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner refused to be drawn into the topic of potentially becoming the next Manchester United manager as pressure continues to surround Ruben Amorim. Before the international break, Amorim was under extreme pressure after losing away at Brentford.
However, a 2-0 victory over Sunderland alleviated some of the immediate concerns, albeit plenty more is expected of him. Among the bookmakers, Glasner is one of the names mentioned to potentially replace Amorim.
The Austrian guided Palace to the FA Cup last season, and if not for a UEFA ruling, the Eagles would be playing in the Europa League this season. Up until last weekend, Palace were the only remaining unbeaten side in the division, but defeat to Everton scuppered that.

This week, Glasner was awarded the Coach of the Year award at Austria’s Sporthilfe Gala for his achievements at Palace. After receiving the award, the 51-year-old was coy about being linked to other jobs, including United, making it clear that he is blocking out the noise and focusing on Palace for the time being.
"As I said, I try to keep it at bay, whether I’m successful or unsuccessful, partly for self-protection," he said when asked about the links. "A few years ago, I got into the habit of living in the here and now and enjoying it.
"It’s simply better when you don’t lose 19 games than when you don’t win 19. Then the atmosphere at the training ground in the morning is simply better; everything is easier.
"I’m no less ambitious, no less demanding, and just as annoyed when we lose, like now. Even if it was the first defeat in six months: I’m one of the worst losers in the world, and I’m still annoyed about it today."

Glasner's response is indicative of the man that he is, even though his position at Palace is up in the air entirely. The manager's contract runs out at the end of this season, and his star midfielder, Adam Wharton, suggested he is waiting to see if his head coach will extend his deal.
Should Glasner become a free agent, there is no suggestion that United would be on the lookout for a replacement for Amorim. Speaking on The Business Podcast this week, Ratcliffe stated that he wished to give Amorim three years to prove himself at the club.
Next month will mark one year since Amorim started work at Old Trafford following the sacking of Erik ten Hag at the end of October. During that time, the Portuguese head coach has led United to the Europa League final, but this came at the cost of finishing 16th in the Premier League.
