WhatsApp is introducing a brand-new feature called “Status Question” for Android users, designed to make status updates more interactive and engaging. According to reports from WABetaInfo, the feature is currently being tested with a limited number of beta testers via the Google Play Store, and a wider rollout is expected in the coming weeks.
This new option works similarly to Instagram’s Question Sticker, allowing users to post a question on their WhatsApp Status that contacts can respond to directly within a reply box. The key highlight? All responses will remain private — only the sender (who asked the question) and the responder can view them.
💬 How the WhatsApp Status Question Feature WorksAs per WABetaInfo, the feature is being introduced with the Android 2.25.29.12 beta update. Since it’s in a gradual rollout phase, not all users — even those on the latest beta — will see it immediately.
Once the feature becomes active, users will be able to:
-
Add a Question Box to their WhatsApp Status — either over an image, text, or video.
-
Receive multiple responses from their contacts, which appear in the Viewers List.
-
Get notifications for each response.
-
Choose to reshare selected answers in their next status update.
If someone doesn’t yet have access to this feature, WhatsApp will display a message saying “This feature isn’t supported on your version yet.”
🔐 Privacy and Security FirstIn keeping with WhatsApp’s strong focus on privacy, all answers sent through the Status Question feature are end-to-end encrypted. This ensures that no one — not even WhatsApp — can read the messages. Only the sender and recipient can see the responses.
Additionally, WhatsApp will allow users to report inappropriate or abusive replies, maintaining a safe and respectful space for interaction.
🧪 Testing Phase Before Global LaunchWhatsApp plans to expand the feature gradually after collecting user feedback and fixing any bugs during the beta testing period. This staged rollout helps ensure smooth performance once the feature is available to all Android and iOS users.
Like other recent updates such as Channels, Polls, and Status Reactions, the Status Question feature marks another step in WhatsApp’s effort to make its platform more social, expressive, and community-driven — without compromising user privacy.
🌐 Why It MattersBy adding the Status Question tool, WhatsApp aims to enhance real-time interaction among users. Whether it’s a fun question, an opinion poll, or a feedback request — this feature brings a new, creative way to engage with contacts privately and meaningfully.
As the feature rolls out globally in the coming weeks, Android users can expect a fresh, Instagram-inspired experience — but with the trusted security of WhatsApp.
