As soon as the dates of Bihar Assembly elections were announced, the political temperature has risen. The last date for nomination for the first phase is October 17, but the distribution of seats in both the NDA and Grand Alliance camps has not been finalized yet. At the center of this political conflict is Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni.

According to the Indian Express, for his party without a single MLA, both the major alliances want to keep him with them at any cost, which has significantly increased Sahni’s bargaining power.

Taking full advantage of this opportunity, Mukesh Sahni is demanding about 30 seats from the Grand Alliance, although he is likely to get 10 to 15 seats. On the other hand, NDA is also trying its best to bring him back into its fold and is promising to give him such seats where the chances of victory are more.

If Sahni joins the NDA, it will be similar to the situation in the 2020 assembly elections, when he joined the NDA after being unhappy with the seats offered by the grand alliance.

Mukesh Sahni He once worked as a set decorator in Bollywood. He entered politics around 2013 and formed the VIP party in 2018. He called himself Son of the Sailor Established as.

In 2014 he supported Narendra Modi, then by 2015 he became the star campaigner of BJP. But by 2019, he went with RJD. For Sahni, the tussle reflects the political importance of his Mallah community, which forms a large part of the Nishad community and falls in the extremely backward class (EBC).

Bihar According to the caste survey, the share of the Nishad community in the total population of the state is about 9.6%, with Sahni’s own Mallah sub-caste accounting for 2.6%. This community has the power to influence the election results in many districts of North Bihar like Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, Madhubani, Khagaria and Vaishali.

According to an RJD leader, Nishads are an important vote bank and by focusing on the extremely backward castes in these elections, bringing them on board can increase the social base of the alliance. This was the reason why even in 2020, BJP had given 11 seats to VIP.
