Vietnam is the world’s sixth friendliest countries for travelers, readers of British magazine Condé Nast Traveller decided in a poll.
Vietnam scored 97.27 points out of 100 in the annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey of the 10 friendliest nations released this week.
“Stripy rice fields, ancient towns, and enchanting emerald bays – there’s no place on Earth quite like Vietnam, and residents can’t wait to share it all with travelers, too,” the magazine gushed.
Community forms a distinctive cornerstone of life here from the bustling urban “sidewalk culture” of curbside food vendors, exercise groups and barbers, to the cozy guesthouses tucked away in remote villages, it said.
No visit to Vietnam is truly complete without experiencing the legendary Ha Giang Loop, a four-day motorbike journey winding through deep mountain valleys, it recommended.
While travelers are drawn by the breathtaking scenery, what often stays with them longest is the bond they form with their personal Vietnamese drivers, it added.
Kenya was voted the world’s friendliest country, followed by Barbados.
Thailand, known as the Land of Smiles, shared eighth position with Seychelles.
More than half a million readers participated in the survey, sharing insights on travel experiences across cities, islands, hotels, resorts, cruise ships, spas, and airlines.
The Readers’ Choice Awards, the longest-running honor in the travel industry, recognize excellence in hotels, resorts and destinations worldwide.
