Reserve Bank of India and NPCI have made preparations for this. Soon, shopkeepers and merchants will also be able to accept UPI payments through ChatGPT. For this, NPCI has partnered with Razorpay and OpenAI.
This move by ChatGPT comes after the announcement in which Google and Perplexity had talked about bringing their own AI powered payment system. Razorpay has confirmed that this feature is currently being tested privately. The feature of making UPI payment through AI agent is currently in beta phase. This feature will allow payment without leaving ChatGPT, which will make the transaction easier.

According to the report, currently a pilot project of this feature is being run. In this, it will be checked how safe and user friendly it will be to make UPI payment through AI tools like ChatGPT. This feature will be based on the Reserve Pay feature recently released by UPI, in which users reserve some part of their funds for dedicated merchants.
Airtel Payments Bank and Axis Bank will be the banking partners for this pilot project of Raorpay. At the same time, Tata Group’s Big Basket and telecom operator Vodafone-Idea will be the first platforms to allow UPI payments through ChatGPT. Raorpay co-founder Harshil Mathur said that the trial of the new agentic AI payment system has recently been completed. It will be integrated into AI tools such as ChatGPT in the coming weeks.
