Ahoi Ashtami fast is observed for the long life and happiness and prosperity of the children. However, some work is prohibited on this day. If women avoid these five mistakes – like digging soil, using scissors, drinking milk or arguing – then the blessings of Ahoi Mata are even more fruitful.
Ahoi Ashtami 2025: Ahoi Ashtami fast is observed on Ashtami Tithi (eighth day) of Kartik month. Women observe this fast for the protection and welfare of their children. This fast is also observed for the birth of a child. On this day, women observe Nirjala fast for their children. This fast brings happiness and prosperity in the life of their children. Women worship Ahoi Mata on Ahoi Ashtami. Some special things have also been mentioned in the scriptures about Ahoi Ashtami fast. These things should be kept in mind. Let us know which 5 things women should avoid on Ahoi Ashtami.
Ahoi Ashtami Puja Method
It falls on the same day, exactly seven days before the fast. This fast is observed only by those women who have children or who wish to have a child. Mothers of children should fast for the whole day. In the evening, make a statue of Ahoi with eight chambers on the wall. Draw a picture of Sei (Syau) and Sei's children near the idol, or get a printed picture of Ahoi Ashtami and hang it on the wall. After the puja, after sunset (when the stars come out), purify the ground, worship the courtyard, fill a pot with water and keep it in a plate like a Kalash and perform the puja. After worshiping Ahoi Mata, the mothers listen to the story.
For the puja, mothers should prepare a silver Ahoi (Sayau) in advance and attach two silver beads to it. Just like a pendant is used in a necklace, similarly weave a silver ahoi and insert silver beads into it. Then worship Ahoi with Roli, rice, milk and rice. Make Satiya in a pot filled with water. Keep pudding and money as gift in a bowl and seven grains of wheat and listen to the story. After listening to the story, wear the Ahoi Sayau garland around your neck. Place the gift you had kept aside at the feet of your mother-in-law and give it to her as Shraddha. After this, offer water to the moon and eat food. On any auspicious day after Diwali, take Ahoi off your neck, offer jaggery to him, sprinkle water on him and install Ahoi with your head bowed. Every time you have sons and every time your sons get married, keep putting two grains of silver in Ahoi. By doing this Ahoi Mata becomes happy and ensures long life of the children and brings new auspiciousness in the house. Donating Petha to the priests on this day brings auspicious results.
