Memory is stored not only in the brain but also in the kidneys, a shocking revelation in the new study.

We have always believed that memory exists only in the brain. But a recent new research has changed this thinking. A study by New York University (NYU) scientist Dr. Nikolai Kukushkin has revealed something shocking. Memory can occur not only in brain cells, but also in other cells of the body!

Memory exists outside the brain too (Memory Tips)

In this research it was found that non-neural cells like kidney or skin cells also behave like memory. When these cells were given different chemical signals, they activated a memory gene, just like brain cells. That is, these cells also remembered the signals and responded accordingly. This study has been published in the journal named Nature Communication.

Information given from time to time remains remembered for a long time.

Research also revealed that if any information is given repeatedly, then remembering it is not as effective. But if the same information is repeated at short intervals, the memory becomes much stronger. In scientific language this is called massive-spaced effect. Earlier this effect was seen only in brain cells, but now it has been found in other cells of the body also.

This is how the test was done

In this experiment, the NYU team inserted a reporter gene into the cells to measure their memory. This gene starts glowing when the memory gene is activated. Then signals were given to some cells continuously, while to others at short intervals. The result was that the cells that received signals at intervals retained the memory for a longer period of time.

impact of research

This study proved that memory is not limited to the brain only, but this ability is also present in many cells of the body.
In future, this discovery can bring a big change in the treatment of memory diseases like Alzheimer’s.
