Shorna Akter Half-Century: Many veteran players have shown their best performance in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 being played in India and Sri Lanka. But till now the full glory of the young players has not been seen. Bangladesh cricket team's 18-year-old all-rounder Shorna Akhtar has changed the story a bit. In the match against South Africa, the young Bangladeshi player made a record of the fastest half-century for Bangladesh with his bat. On the basis of Shorna's 35-ball innings, Bangladesh set a worthy target for South Africa.

Some explosive innings were seen in the match between India and Australia in Visakhapatnam on Sunday 12 October. On Monday, 13 October, the situation was opposite in the match between South Africa and Bangladesh on the same ground and it was difficult for the batsmen to score runs. The Bangladeshi team batting first batted first and a good partnership was formed for the team but the pace of scoring was very slow. But then Shorna's bat shook the entire South African team.

Picture changed in just 35 balls

Bangladesh's third wicket had fallen on the first ball of the 41st over at the score of 150 and here Shorna had entered the crease. Then what, Shorna Akhtar, who was small in terms of age and height, changed the picture of everyone's innings with her great courage and even bigger batting range. This batsman defeated the South African bowlers and completed his first half-century in ODI cricket in the 49th over. The most important thing is that Shorna completed her fifty in just 34 balls and thus made the record of the fastest half-century in women's ODI for Bangladesh.

Right-handed batsman Shorna Akhtar, coming from Jamalpur, Bangladesh, broke the record of team captain Nigar Sultana, who had made this record by scoring fifty in 39 balls against Scotland in 2024. Shorna played an inning of 51 runs in just 35 balls, which included 3 fours and 3 sixes. Not only this, she also became the first Bangladeshi female player to hit 3 sixes in an ODI match. Along with Ritu Moni, he made a stormy partnership of 37 runs in the last 18 balls and took the team to a strong score of 232 runs.

History was created at the age of 16

Well, this is not the first time that Sharna Akhtar has done wonders with her performance. Earlier in 2023, at the age of just 16, Shorna had created history by taking 5 wickets in a T20 match against South Africa. With this he had created a new record. She became the first bowler in 16 years to take 5 wickets in a T20 match played between ICC full member teams.
