Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn with a massive investment of ₹15,000 crore in India’s manufacturing hub, Tamil Nadu, will create 14,000 high-skilled engineering jobs and boost the state’s electronics ecosystem. Industries Minister TRB Raja described it as the “biggest ever” engineering jobs promise, and underlined Tamil Nadu’s attractiveness to global tech giants.

The announcement came after a key meeting between Chief Minister MK Stalin and Foxconn India chief Robert Wu, who reaffirmed the company’s “deep confidence” in the state’s pro-business blueprint. Raja’s encouraging The investment targets a combination of value-added manufacturing, research & development (R&D) and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven operations, in line with the spirit of ‘Make in India’ and the diversification of Apple’s supply chain away from China.

To move forward in this direction, the state investment arm, Guidance Tamil Nadu, will lead India’s first “Foxconn Desk” for streamlined approvals and mission-critical implementation. “This is the implementation of the Dravidian Model 2.0—the future of Tamil Nadu’s trillion-dollar economy,” Raja declared, and highlighted the seamless facility for Foxconn’s expansion.

Foxconn, which has already made its presence felt in Tamil Nadu (Sriperumbudur iPhone plant), Karnataka and Telangana, is now planning a wider expansion. Wu’s meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru last Sunday discussed possibilities of synergy in the manufacturing and technology sector, while similar efforts were made in Uttar Pradesh. In August 2025, Foxconn began assembly of the iPhone 17 near Bengaluru, bolstering India’s growing semiconductor influence—an example being Tamil Nadu’s first device export from Coimbatore.

This ₹15,000 crore windfall—Foxconn’s largest investment in India—reinforces the export dominance of Tamil Nadu, which contributes 30% of India’s electronics shipments. With a semiconductor mission of ₹500 crore in the budget for 2025, Coimbatore is emerging as a global hub. As Stalin’s vision comes to fruition, the state strengthens its leadership, combining policy acumen with innovation to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and empower its youth. For engineers with an eye on high-tech horizons, Tamil Nadu is attractive—opportunities abound.
