Politics has heated up over the case of gang rape of a second year student of a private medical college in Durgapur of Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal. In this series, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said that women are unsafe in Maa Durga’s Bengal.
Speaking to reporters on the Durgapur Medical College gang rape case, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said, “Women are unsafe in Maa Durga’s Bengal. I have come to discuss a very important and sensitive issue.
It is extremely unfortunate that women are unsafe in Mamata Banerjee’s Bengal. It is even more painful and shameful for the society that the woman Chief Minister of the state, Mamata Banerjee, is busy shaming and blaming the victims, and is showing insensitivity by placing all the blame on the victims themselves.”
Bansuri Swaraj said, “In 2004, once again Mamata Banerjee justified rape by saying that such incidents keep happening and now men and women, boys and girls, walk side by side. Earlier, if any such incident happened, she was immediately scolded or reminded. She once again tried to blame women. This shows the mentality of TMC.”
Speaking on the Park Street case, the BJP MP said that you all will remember that a very brutal rape took place in 2012. What did Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee say at that time? Once again, he blamed the victim and claimed that it was a fabricated incident. In other words, they indicated that the victim had fabricated the incident. This was extremely embarrassing for the victim.
He said that a heinous gang rape took place in West Bengal. You will be surprised to know that Mamata Banerjee said that the entire incident was a conspiracy. Once again, he denied the seriousness of the matter. Law and order has completely broken down in Bengal.
The BJP MP said, “As you know, countless women were sexually harassed in Sandeshkhali and all this was done by TMC leaders themselves. Even in TMC offices, some incident may have happened. But Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that nothing happened. She claimed that her party did nothing and termed these incidents as ‘fabricated’.”
