New Delhi: Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma met for the first time since India announced the ODI captaincy change ahead of their upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia marking Indias return to 50-over cricket after clinching the 2025 Champions Trophy. After retiring from Test and T20I cricket Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has not played for India after their victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final in March. Ahead of the Australia series chief selector Ajit Agarkar made a shocking decision as he appointed Shubman Gill as the ODI captain following his impressive start as Test captain. Rohit got snubbed from the ODI captaincy role After Rohit got snubbed from the captaincy role it sparked widespread controversies and debates in the cricketing world. The 38-year-old is Indias most successful ODI captain who has a win percentage of 75%. In fact among captains with over 50 ODI matches only Clive Lloyd has a higher win rate. Rohit captained India in two ICC 50-over tournaments guiding the team to the finals in both-losing the 2023 World Cup final but winning the Champions Trophy. Across these two tournaments India played 16 matches winning 15 of them. Additionally Rohit led India to two Asia Cup titles.
