WhatsApp is once again changing the way we chat, and this time the updates are both playful and practical.
The app has slowly moved past being just a space for quick texts and photo sharing. With every new feature, it’s becoming a place where conversations feel a little more personal, and everyday tasks get a lot easier.
From AI-powered themes that set the mood of your chats to a built-in document scanner that saves you a trip to another app, WhatsApp added small touches that make a big difference, it revealed in an official post.
Making conversations smarter
The highlight of this update is AI-created chat themes and video call backgrounds.
Instead of scrolling through the same old wallpapers, you can now just type in how you’re feeling—“sunset by the sea,” “cosy book café,” or “festival lights”—and WhatsApp will create it for you instantly. You can set a theme for all chats at once through Settings > Chats > Default Chat Theme > Create with AI, or give each conversation its own look if you like variety.
Video calls get the same creative treatment. Under Call Effects > Backgrounds > Create with AI, you can swap your real-life backdrop for something tidier or more imaginative—like a neat office, a beach sunset, or even something completely out of the box.
To add a little more fun, WhatsApp is also rolling out new sticker packs such as Fearless Bird and Vacation, along with support for Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android. They might sound like small updates, but together they make chats feel less ordinary and a lot more expressive.
Everyday tools that actually help
Android users finally get a built-in document scanner, something iPhone users have enjoyed for years. It’s tucked into the attachments menu under Scan Document.
You can use it to capture receipts, IDs, or forms, and it will automatically straighten the edges and save them as neat PDFs or images ready to send. Once you try it, you’ll probably wonder how you managed without it.
Other small but useful tweaks are also here. If you can’t remember the name of a group chat, just type in a friend’s name, and WhatsApp will show every group you share with them—perfect for people juggling endless family, work, and hobby groups.
And if you’re chatting across languages, the new Translate option makes life simpler. Long-press a message, tap Translate, and see it instantly in your preferred language.
The bigger picture
Put together, these features show where WhatsApp is headed. It’s not just about speed or convenience anymore. The app wants to give people room to express themselves while quietly taking care of everyday frustrations in the background.
As Meta puts it: “Meta AI is available in WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and on the web … to help you find information, get inspired, and be more productive.” Some features are still rolling out, but one thing is clear—WhatsApp wants your chats to feel more alive, more expressive, and a little bit smarter every day.
