Rajat Bedi opens up on having nervous breakdown

In a candid conversation with Mid Day, Rajat revealed that his early years in the film industry were filled with manipulation and underpayment. Although he poured his heart into every project, he often found that others took credit for his work.

He was offered roles for the benefit of producers or co-workers, and contractual issues left him frequently unpaid. It financially left him questioning his future in Bollywood.

The stress eventually took a toll on his mental and physical health. Rajat admitted to experiencing severe anxiety and insomnia, sometimes relying on "relax pills" to get through the night. “I was constantly thinking about bills, work, and how to manage my life,” he shared. His wife noticed the strain and encouraged him to consider leaving India for a fresh start.

Opens up about struggles after quitting Bollywood

In 2007, shortly after the birth of his daughter, Rajat made the difficult decision and moved to Canada. He described breaking down emotionally on the day of departure, feeling uncertain and anxious about moving to a new country without close family or friends. Yet, this move became a turning point in his life.

In Canada, the Indian community welcomed him, recognising his contributions to Bollywood. Rajat Bedi recalled that in 2012, the company experienced a major setback due to partnership disputes, which led to the business collapsing overnight despite handling transactions worth around 200 million Canadian dollars, he shared to Siddharth Kannan.

He further explained that after being deceived by a previous partner, he brought in two new partners and relaunched the real estate business on a larger scale. However, in 2018, he faced major betrayal from these partners, resulting in a legal battle and eventual settlement. Bedi described the period between 2018 and 2021 as an extremely traumatic experience.

Looking back, Rajat calls his 16 years in Canada a blessing. The distance from Bollywood allowed him to heal, regain focus, and rebuild his life. His return to the screen through The Ba***ds of Bollywood marks not just a professional comeback, but also a personal victory over years of struggle.
