Argentina booked their spot in the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025 final with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Colombia in Santiago, setting up a title clash with Morocco as they chase a record-extending seventh crown. Argentina, appearing in their first U-20 World Cup final since 2007, have now advanced to the tournament’s eighth final overall.

In a tense semifinal, both sides played cautiously through a goalless first half. After the break, Argentina head coach Diego Placente made bold tactical changes - shifting from a five-man defense to a more attacking formation - that swung momentum in his team’s favor.

In the 55th minute, Argentina had defender Tobias Ramirez to thank for preserving the deadlock, as he brilliantly cleared the ball away from Colombia’s Emilio Aristizabal just yards from goal after Santino Barbi had initially blocked a fierce strike from Jhon Renteria.

Only moments later, in the 57th minute, goalkeeper Barbi came to Argentina’s rescue once again, producing a superb save to tip over Juan Arizala’s powerful header that looked certain to find the top corner.

The breakthrough arrived in the 72nd minute, when Inter Miami forward Mateo Silvetti coolly slotted home the winner. Colombia’s hopes faded further after Jhon Renteria was sent off in the 79th minute for a second yellow card, leaving them to finish the match with 10 men.

With this win, Argentina march into the U-20 World Cup final slated for Sunday (October 19), eyeing yet another chapter of their rich youth football legacy. Colombia will now meet France in the third-place match on Saturday.
