Every woman tries to make every detail of her face perfect, but there are some problems which spoil the fun of the entire look. One such problem is dry skin near the lips, which often looks cracked, stretched and lifeless. There is no doubt that when you apply expensive cream or lip balm, this dryness goes away for some time. But then as soon as you open your mouth, laugh or talk, the skin starts feeling stretched again. This problem not only makes you feel uncomfortable, but also reduces your confidence.

But we believe that when some kitchen items can be useful to solve your problems, then why do you need to spend more money and buy expensive items. There are some things found in the kitchen of your house that can eliminate these problems from their roots. These things will not only remove dryness around the lips but will also make the skin naturally soft.

The skin around the lips has become dry.

1. Frequent exposure to saliva

This is the most common mistake that people make unknowingly. When we feel stressed or dry, we repeatedly lick the lips and the skin around them with our tongue. Saliva contains digestive enzymes. When saliva comes out, it also takes away the skin’s natural moisture with it. Additionally, the enzymes in saliva damage the delicate skin around the lips and increase dryness, leading to redness and itching.

2. Dehydration and change of weather

Lack of water in the body is most harmful for the skin. Not drinking enough water affects the skin like other parts of the body. Additionally, dry winds and heat from heaters or blowers in cold weather can quickly strip moisture from the skin. Due to these reasons, the skin loses its elasticity, due to which it starts looking stretched, lifeless and dry.

3. Reaction of chemical and fluoride

The products we use also harm this delicate area. Some people have reactions to fluoride toothpaste, fragrances in cheap lip balms, or cosmetics that contain allergies. This reaction manifests as irritation, redness, and extreme dryness of the skin around the lips, which is called perioral dermatitis.

4-step ‘golden’ treatment for dry skin around the lips

1. Virgin Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has been an integral part of skin care in Indian homes for centuries. It is rich in lauric acid, which is an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agent. It strengthens the outer layer of the skin. Before sleeping at night, take a few drops of virgin coconut oil. Warm it by rubbing it lightly on your fingers and massage lightly on the dry skin around the lips. Leave it for the whole night. This oil works as an excellent occlusive, which prevents moisture from escaping from the skin, thus keeping dryness at bay for 24 hours.

2. Ghee

Ghee is a wonderful boon of Ayurveda not only for food but also for the skin. Ghee is rich in natural fatty acids and antioxidants. It deeply nourishes the skin and helps in repairing cells. Take a small amount of ghee and rub it lightly between your palms. Now massage it slowly on the area around the lips. It is also best to use this before sleeping at night. With regular use, within two-three days the dryness starts getting cured and the skin becomes soft.

3. Fresh cream

The fresh cream of milk is best for those who have dry and sensitive skin. Cream contains lactic acid, which is a mild form of an alpha hydroxy acid. It gently removes dead skin cells. The natural fats of milk nourish the skin. Take a small amount of fresh cream. Massage it in circular motion around the lips for 5 to 7 minutes. Wash with plain water after 10 minutes. It acts as both a gentle exfoliator and moisturizer, reducing flaking of dry skin.

4. Mixture of honey and glycerine

It is a blend that provides instant relief and locks moisture into the skin. Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air and replenishes it in the skin. Glycerine does the same thing, but it holds the moisture for a longer period of time. Make a paste by mixing half a teaspoon of glycerine in one teaspoon of honey. Apply it on dry skin for 15-20 minutes and then wash it with lukewarm water. This is one of the fastest acting home remedies, which is very effective in treating redness and dryness.

Correct these 5 mistakes, only then you will get permanent relief

1. Licking the lips repeatedly with the tongue

As we mentioned earlier, this is the biggest cause of dryness. Whenever you feel like licking your lips, immediately take out ghee, coconut oil or any natural lip balm from your pocket and apply it. This will divert your attention and maintain moisture.

2. Washing face with warm water

Bathing with hot water in cold weather feels very comfortable, but it is harmful for the skin. Always use lukewarm water to wash the skin around the face and lips. Hot water strips away the skin’s natural oils, leading to instant dryness.

3. Use of fluoride toothpaste

For some people, the fluoride or tartar control agents in toothpaste may cause allergic reactions to the dry skin around the lips. If you think your problem started after changing toothpaste, switch to a fluoride-free or gentle toothpaste. Also, rinse your mouth thoroughly after brushing so that there is no residue left.

4. Ignoring the skin barrier at night

Our skin repairs itself at night. If you do not provide moisture at night, dryness increases. Before sleeping at night, after cleansing the face, always strengthen the skin barrier by applying ghee or coconut oil on the area around the lips. It will nourish your skin throughout the night.

5. Drink less water and go out in the sun

Both dehydration and the sun’s UV rays make the skin dry, dull and tanned. Keep your body hydrated from within by drinking at least 8 to 10 glasses of water daily. Apply SPF balm or sunscreen to dry areas 20 minutes before going out in the sun, even if the area is around the lips.
